Luke Bryan, Others Pay Tribute to Lionel Richie at 2016 Grammys
Luke Bryan joined in as part of an all-star tribute to pop icon Lionel Richie at the 2016 Grammy Awards on Monday night (Feb. 15).
Bryan joined John Legend, Demi Lovato and Meghan Trainor and Tyrese to pay musical honor to the 2016 MusiCares Person of the Year, joining Richie himself for a medley spanning Commodores-era classics and some of the solo hits that earned Richie a Grammy for Album of the Year in 1984.
Legend kicked off the spirited performance fittingly on piano with "Easy Like Sunday Morning" as trombones and backup singers accompanied him. In the crowd, Richie was spotted singing along.
Shortly after, Lovato took the stage in a black and white pants suit and jeweled necklace as she belted "Hello" for a standout performance. Again, Richie was shown in the crowd screaming along from his seat with a microphone in his hand.
Country's own Bryan then took the stage dressed in black with the beautiful ballad "Penny Lover" before Trainor joined with the always enjoyable "You Are the Sun, You Are the Rain." Tyrese then took the stage for the most animated performance of the set, "Brick House," while donned in a white tux.
The man of the hour, Richie, then took the stage with Bryan and Legend for a group sing along of "All Night Long (All Night)."
"That's how we do it right there!" Richie said at the close of the performance.
The special performance marked the Grammy debuts of Bryan, Lovato and Trainor. Richie has won a career total of four Grammy Awards.
