Keith Urban is inching closer to becoming the second major country superstar to lead a team of contestants on ‘The Voice.’ The singer will star on the Australian version of the series when it begins later this year. The promotional video below gives fans of the singer an idea of what to expect from the show down under.

Structurally, the show is very similar (if not identical to) the NBC version starring Blake Shelton and others. Urban says he’s especially excited about the blind audition process, because he thinks the concept behind the show is a good one. “It’s all about the voice, and I love the fact that we get to connect with that before everything else,” he says. “I can’t see what these people look like, same as when I hear a song on the radio by a new artist, I don’t know what they look like.”

Seal, Good Charlotte‘s Joel Madden and Australian pop-star (and Nick Jonas‘ girlfriend) Delta Goodrem are the other three judges on the Aussie version of ‘The Voice.’ It’s not clear when the series will begin, however, as the show’s Facebook page only reveals that it’s coming in 2012.

“It’s authenticity, that’s the thing I’m listening for,” Urban says. “It’s that pure believability that I feel like this person is speaking to me.” The ‘Without You’ hitamker just recently flexed his own voice, perforimg for the first time since undergoing surgery on his vocal chords to remove a polyp. His next show is Feb. 10 in Austin, Texas.
