A Pleasantville man was indicted by the Atlantic County Grand Jury yesterday for the murder of a woman, and the desecration of her remains.

According to Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain, Steven R. Stallworth, 28, was indicted for the 2013 murder of Tara Rogers Alicea, 30, of Monroeville.

It was January 5, 2014 when a hunter found human remains in the area behind what was then known as Shore Mall. In subsequent days detectives, working with the public's help, were able to identify the body as that of Alicea. The the cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation by strangulation.

Stallworth was arrested in August of 2014, and has been held in the county jail.

If convicted, Stallworth faces 30 years to life in prison for the murder charge. The desecration charge could result in 5 - 10 years.
