Country music has a long tradition of supporting the troops, with stars like Toby Keith, Kellie Pickler and Darryl Worley taking frequent trips overseas to play for the men and women stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Of course, before the Gulf Wars, country musicians were quick to join the USO to play for troops stationed just about anywhere. While only a minority of Nashville’s best served in the military, more than a few on this list may surprise you.

I just planned your entire summer! Here's my updated Cat Country Concert Calendar.
We think it’s safe to say that this summer is shaping up to be one of Thomas Rhett‘s best yet. The young singer-songwriter just found out he has been summoned by Toby Keith to be one of the openers on the ‘Red Solo Cup’ hitmaker’s headlining Live in Overdrive Tour.
Toby Keith began his performance of his monster hit ‘Red Solo Cup’ while walking through the crowd at the 2012 ACM Awards tonight (April 1) with a — you guessed it — red Solo cup in one hand and a microphone in the other. The singer roamed amongst the people for the course of the entire song, and most of the audience members were also holding their own disposable receptacles — aka the things that are not just a cup but a friend. Nothing like a prop to make a point!
Toby Keith announced his own ACM Award win during the red carpet broadcast on Sunday night. The singer was chatting with GAC-TV’s hosts when he was surprised with an envelope to open for Video of the Year. It would have been awkward had he been stopped to announce someone else’s win, but ‘Red Solo Cup’ took home the trophy.
Toby Keith took a moment to appear on Chelsea Handler’s show ‘Chelsea Lately’ Tuesday night (March 27) to talk to the comedic host about his career, enjoy a shot of tequila and explain why he’s not a conservative Republican, as many might assume. After admitting that she actually had Keith confused with Trace Adkins until she saw him and realized it wasn’t Adkins, Handler jumped in her matter-of-fact, straight-faced way from topic to topic — after first enjoying a shot of the restaurant owner’s own brand of Mezcal, which he calls Wild Shot.
Summertime is just around the corner, which means country music’s hottest artists are gearing up for tour season to launch into overdrive. And there’s no exception for Toby Keith, who just announced his 2012 tour coming in June.
