I was driving in Monmouth County the other day, and I saw some things that make me think the county may have the best drivers in the entire state.

Before you start rolling your eyes, give me a chance to explain the day I had on the roads of Monmouth County.

Does Monmouth County Have New Jersey's Best Drivers?

We know that Monmouth County has a reputation for impatient drivers, but that is not what I experienced one glorious day earlier this week.

I want to share with you three things I witnessed on some of the area's most notorious roads, and it all happened on the same day.

First I was driving along Route 33 in the Farmingdale/Freehold area where it's one lane each way.

A man, driving right in front of me, had just pulled over to help an older gentleman with a disabled vehicle in the shoulder. He looked like he was just being a good Samaritan and it warmed my heart.

About an hour later, on Route 9 Manalapan, I watched from a distance as a car struggled to get into the right lane to take the jughandle at Symmes Dr./Ryan Rd.

A nice driver slowed down, let the car enter the right lane and no one missed a beat. This is how it must have been in the early days of jughandles.

Monmouth County Drivers Doing The Right Thing

And the most surprising moment of all was when I was the first car at the red light on Route 34 and Belmar Blvd. in Wall, and when the light changed and I didn't move for a good 15 seconds, no one beeped at me.

There is hope for us yet. The nicest drivers in New Jersey are in Monmouth County, even if it is just for a day.
