New data shows one cosmetic procedure is now the country's most popular, and, New Jersey is one of the top states where people want the cosmetic procedure the most.

Brazilian Butt Lift is Nation's Top Viral Cosmetic Procedure

The research conducted by medical supply retailer Face Med Store analyzed TikTok hashtags and Google searches in the US to determine which of 44 cosmetic procedures were the most popular on social media over the past three years.

American TikTok users have watched #brazilianbuttlift videos 4.8 billion times in the past three years, and creators have used the hashtag 225,313 times.

The BBL also ranks as the number one most-searched-for procedure in 24 states, including New Jersey.

New Jersey ranks in sixth place nationally for BBL searches with 1,745 monthly searches per month per 100,000 residents.   

What is Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery?

A Brazilian butt lift is a surgery where a doctor transfers fat from your belly, hips, lower back, or thighs to your buttocks.

The result is more of an hourglass-shaped figure, with larger buttocks. It's not an actual "lift" because it doesn't try to raise your butt. Instead, it increases volume. Simply, it is surgery to make your butt bigger.

The Chair of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Dr. J. Peter Rubin says, "Based on the survey data, it looked like the death rate was as high as one in 3,000, which is a very, very high mortality rate."
