4 NJ Beers Win Gold Medal at World Beer Cup with one in Wildwood, NJ

Four local beers won gold at the World Beer Cup in Louisville, CO, which is known as “the Olympics of beer,” and is the most prestigious beer competition in the world.

The event is held annually in conjunction with the Craft Brewers Conference & BrewExpo America.

Over 200 highly qualified beer professionals hand out gold, silver, and bronze medals to over 100 categories of beers with each category having an average of 84.5 beers entered per category.

9,300 beers entered the World Beer Cup, which was founded in 1996, with 2,060 breweries represented from 50 countries.

So which four local beers won gold?

• Lone Squirrel an American-Style Brown Ale from Bonesaw Brewing Co. in Glassboro
• Mermaid Blonde Ale a Golden or Blonde Ale from Ship Bottom Brewery in Beach Haven
• Wee Heavy Wilson a Scotch Ale from MudHen Brewing Co. in Wildwood
• Dripping Maple a Wood- and Barrel-Aged Strong Stout from Kane Brewing Co. in Ocean.

One other beer, Field & Oak | Golden Raspberry from Kane Brewing Co. won a bronze in the Belgian Fruit Beer category.

The Wee Heavy Wilson is a beer from MudHen Brewing in Wildwood, which is a 8.5% ABV Scotch Ale that imparts full-bodied malt sweetness with a titch o' smoked peatiness.

I'm a fan of some of the MudHen beers, like Gander and Rambler to Miami, so I will have to check this one out during my next visit.

The Lone Squirrel at Bonesaw is an American-style brown ale is packed full of chocolatey, malty flavor. Dark chestnut brown with a cream tan head and just a touch of hop bitterness, you’ll want to snuggle up with this easy-drinking dark brew.

When I head to Bonesaw I am a fan of Swoosh.

At Ship Bottom, the Mermaid Blonde Ale is an easy-drinking summer ale.  I have been to Ship Bottom a few times and enjoyed their Hop and Hazy IPA.

Finally, Kane in Ocean always makes a solid beer so its no surprise that they won gold with Dripping Maple, a 13.0% Double Barrel-Aged French-Toast inspired Imperial Stout,

Kane has a bunch of tasty brews including the Head High and the Party Wave.
