Philadelphia Eagles to play game in Brazil next season

The Philadelphia Eagles will play a game at Corinthians Area in São Paulo, Brazil with a seating capacity of 47,252.

The Eagles will be the home team on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, and an opponent will be revealed at a later date.

It will be the first Friday game in Week 1 since 1970.

With the home and road opponents already set for 2024, that means Philadelphia could face the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Commanders, Green Bay Packers or the Jacksonville Jaguars in the game.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie put out this statement

"The Eagles organization is honored to have been selected to play in the first-ever National Football League game in South America," said Jeffrey Lurie, Philadelphia Eagles Chairman and CEO. "With the global growth of our sport being a top priority to our league, we embrace the opportunity to grow our fanbase around the world and bring Eagles football to the 38 million sports fans in Brazil. One of the world's most culturally diverse nations, Brazil is an international melting pot, and we look forward to experiencing its warm, vibrant, and welcoming environment later this year."

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced at his Super Bowl press conference on Monday that the Eagles would be playing in the game.

"Playing on Friday night of Week 1 is a unique way to highlight our international growth and ambitions," said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

It will mark the second time the Eagles have played a regular season game outside of the United States. Philadelphia played the Jacksonville Jaguars in London back in 2018
