South Jersey Baseball Community Continues to Rally Behind Injured 12-Year-Old Player
About a week ago, Xavier Taylor, a 12-year-old baseball player from Maple Shade, was struck by a ball in the neck by a thrown ball, causing him to collapse into cardiac arrest.
A Community Unites for Xavier Taylor
Taylor needed to be airlifted from the Maple Shade baseball fields to Cooper University Hospital, and while there are no new medical updates on Taylor, the community continues to rally around the family with tons of support.
Taylor is currently on a ventilator in the ICU, and the most recent update from his father, Greg, says, "We’re just pushing day by day to hope that the activity comes back.”
How the South Jersey Baseball Community is Showing Support
In the meantime, the South Jersey baseball community has been showing tons of support, with the community coming out to the Maple Shade baseball field last Thursday night and outside Cooper University Hospital Saturday night for a prayer vigil.
Local leagues have posted on social media in support of Taylor, families from all over the county have placed baseball bats on their front porch in support of the family, and the Meal Train link is still active with the current total of nearly $110,000. Xavier's father recently posted lawn signs to help raise money and show support.
While this is an unforeseen incident, and one nobody wishes to see happen, it is a great sign of the entire South Jersey baseball community coming together at a moment's notice.
With your continued support, prayers, and unity, we all hope to see Xavier back on the field someday playing the game he loves.
