Surging TV viewership shows Phillies are must watch baseball

The 2025 edition of the Philadelphia Phillies have given their fans a season full of highs and lows as the team is playing to reach the postseason for the fourth straight year.

With 64 wins through their first 112 games this season, the Phillies have the fourth-best record in the National League on August 5th. On pace to win 92 games this year, that would make 2025 the third straight season of 90-plus wins for the Phillies.

But the latest research shows that the Phillies are also growing in popularity among fans of Major League Baseball.

What TV Viewership Numbers Say About the Phillies

In a press release from ESPN Media PR, they announced that ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball Broadcast of the Detroit Tigers at Philadelphia Phillies averaged 2.03 million viewers.

That is the third-most watched ESPN Sunday Night Baseball game of the 2025 season, behind the June 1st Dodgers vs Yankees game (2.7 million) and the May 18th Mets vs Yankees (2.5 million).

Overall, the Phillies have three of the top ten most-watched Sunday Night Baseball broadcasts on ESPN this season:

-August 4th: Tigers vs Phillies 2.03 million (3rd)
-April 27th: Phillies vs Cubs 1.68 million (8th)
-June 22nd: Mets vs Phillies 1.47 million (10th)

The Phillies also have the highest average viewership in their local market in Major League Baseball. With 325,000 average viewers per game, the Phillies' local TV Broadcast has 20 percent more people watching than the second-most-watched MLB team in their local market (New York Mets).

What Attendance Numbers Say About The Phillies

For the third-straight year, the Phillies home attendance is Top 10 in Major League Baseball. Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park is averaging 40,495 people in attendance per game over the last three years.

The 2013 season was the last time the Phillies were top ten in MLB in Home Ballpark Attendance. Philadelphia went ten years in which their attendance was either average or below-average in Major League Baseball.

According to a 2023 survey of over 2,200 Baseball Fans, the Phillies ranked as the seventh-most popular MLB team. Only seven Major League Baseball teams had a favorability score over 50 percent, with the Phillies at 51 percent.
