Two teenagers were hurt when two dirt bikes collided in Ocean County this past weekend.
The Manchester Township Police Department says at about 8:15 Sunday evening, July 20th, their officers were called to the area of Hay Road in the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management area following a report of a crash.
At the scene, they found a Kawasaki dirt bike with extensive front-end damage lying across the roadway and two male riders had significant injuries.
Police: U-turn Triggered the Collision
Police say their preliminary investigation revealed that the Kawasaki was traveling north on Hay Road when a Yamaha dirt bike initiated a U-turn on the trail. The resulting collision caused the driver of the Kawasaki to be ejected from the vehicle.
Both Riders from Browns Mills, Crash Under Investigation
The Kawasaki rider has been identified as 18-year-old William Vandergrift II of Browns Mills. The Yamaha rider was 18-year-old Dominic Valdivieso, also of Browns Mills.
Vandergrift II was taken to Community Medical Center for treatment while Valdivieso was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital. Both were last reported to be in stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation by the Manchester Township Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit.
