Here’s The Leading Cause of Death in The State of New Jersey
The leading cause of death in the state of New Jersey should come as no surprise.
It’s heart disease.
This holds true for men and women and it’s the same for all of the United States and the entire world.
The average age of death in New Jersey is 77.5 years old. By comparison, the average age of death in New Hampshire is 79 years old.
Living 1 1/2 more years may seem like a “rounding error,” but, I think it’s very meaningful.
Hawaii has the highest life expectancy at 80.7 years, more than 3 years longer than New Jersey.
Mississippi has the lowest life expectancy at 71.9 years old, with West Virginia at 72.8 years old and Louisiana at 73.1 years old.
What would you give to receive between 1 1/2 to 3 more years added to your life?
To have more time with your family. It’s priceless.
Following their first year of life, unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death in children.
The most preventable cause of death in America is smoking.
I have no idea why … but, after experts studied the trends, it’s been determined that more deaths occur in the month of January than any other month.
The month with the fewest number of deaths in America is September.
The top risk factors are:
- diet
- high blood pressure
- obesity
- tobacco use
There is good news regarding tobacco use. It is on the decline, with a nearly 40 percent decrease over the past 20 years.
The greater Atlantic City area is fortunate to have a quality health care system like AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center and all of their affiliations and specialists.
The AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Heart and Vascular Institute serves the region very well.
AtlantiCare has the only full-service cardiac program in southeastern New Jersey.
During 2023, The AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City and Mainland campuses each earned Comprehensive & Primary Stroke Center certifications, respectively, again.
The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association Heart-Check mark for Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification.
This is the fourth consecutive time that they have earned certification, which reflects a commitment to providing safe, quality care for patients.
We previously reported more AtlantiCare good news when the Joint Commission's recertification of ARMC's Mainland Campus in Pomona, NJ as a Primary Stroke Center in 2022.
AtlantiCare has earned this designation eight consecutive times since 2008.
Prevention is so very important, however, when the need for care presents itself, the Southern New Jersey area has national caliber talent and services available.
