Prosecutor: Atlantic City, NJ Police Officer Charged with Theft

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has charged an Atlantic City, New Jersey Police Officer with the theft of a substantial sum of money.

The criminally charged Atlantic City Police Officer is LaQuay Dubose, who faces a crime of the 3rd degree, for allegedly spending tens of thousands of dollars that was mistakenly deposited into his bank account … known as a demand deposit account, or, more commonly referred to as a checking account.

According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, (ACPO) bank employees mistakenly deposited a $ 100,000 check into Debose’s checking account.

The ACPO alleges that Debose spent $ 35,000 before the back caught the error.

When the bank moved to retrieve the funds from Dubose’s checking account, this allegedly left Debose’s checking account overdrawn by the amount of $ 35,903.17.

Specifically, the ACPO has revealed that:

On March 27, 2023, bank personnel realized the error, withdrew the money, and closed LaQuay Dubose's account. During that time period, Dubose had already spent over $35,000 of the money resulting in this account being over drawn by $35,903.17.

The Dubose investigation is being directly managed by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Professional Standards and Accountability Unit.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
