Just a little over a year ago, my Grandmother who we call "Ma Marie" was diagnosed with  Stage 2 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

My mom-mom was nothing short of a survivor throughout her lifetime. In 2000 she was in a fatal car accident where she completely shattered her face, which resulted in her dealing with complications for the rest of her life. Whereas the other person involved in the crash was killed.

At 80 years old, a cancer diagnosis still just didn't seem fair. But without hesitation, Ma Marie decided to go through with the chemotherapy treatments-- and did so with a positive attitude and fierce perseverance to do what she did best: Fight.

By the end of October last year,  My mom-mom completed her treatments and was told she had kicked cancer’s butt with her ‘ole Italian boot!

However, even though she beat the cancer, due to unforeseen complications, she passed away earlier this year on January 28, 2017.

Amongst her many ailments, Mom-Mom taught not just her family, but all those around her, to never give up.

So, In memory of my Mom-Mom, my family and I are raising money to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Light The Night Walk.  The walk represents bringing light to the darkness of Cancer. And last year, my big Italian family walked along side Mom-Mom in support. This year, we walk in her memory.

The LLS is finding more effective treatments and cures for blood cancers so patients can live better, longer lives. It exists to find cures for blood cancers not someday, but today.

I once used to be a sceptic of donations towards cancer research. I'll be the first to say that. But now knowing someone affected by cancer and the research that it entails, I couldn't be more supportive of such an amazing organization.

In which case, I'm asking you to help my family in raising money and awareness for Leukemia & Lymphoma by donating to our fundraising page, Ma Marie's Spaguido's and Meatballs, for the LLS' Light the Night Walk on October 14th in Cherry Hill.

Thank you so much for your generosity and support which will make a huge difference in the lives of thousands of patients and families battling blood cancers!
