New Year, New Lingo!

With 2018 comes a list of words that Americans simply DO NOT want to carry into the new year.

Northern Michigan's Lake Superior State University released its 43rd annual List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Misuse, Overuse and General Uselessness.

The eclectic group of 14 words/phrases (some of which I've never heard before) comes from a bunch of suggestions across the country. But don't worry, we've defined some of them for you:

  1. Fake News
  2. let me ask you this
  3. unpack
  4. impactful
  5. nothingburger --something of less significance or importance
  6. tons
  7. dish
  8. drill down--access data that is in a lower level of a hierarchically structured database.
  9. let that sink in
  10. pre-owned
  11. onboarding/offboarding
  12. gig economy--a labor market based on short-term contracts or freelance work
  13. hot water heater
  14. covfefe--a Twitter flub or typo presented by President Trump
