She's been around since you were little. Honestly, she's been around even before you existed. She's a legend, a South Jersey shore staple, and one of the best roadside attractions in the country.

Of course I'm referring to the gray giant herself that is Margate's own 'Lucy The Elephant'.

Believe it or not, Lucy's been around for quite some time now. She's been attracting tourists, beach-goers, and locals alike for over one hundred years. Actually, it's closer to 150 years now. Constructed back in 1882, Lucy The Elephant is now clocking in with 141 years under her belt. She's been delighting children and families for generations now. Believe it or not, there was a scare that Lucy would be no more, but thanks to some really caring folks here in South Jersey, there's now a popular movement to ensure Lucy's preserved for even more generations to come. You can find out more about the 'Save Lucy' movement HERE.

If you've gotten the chance to walk through Lucy a time or two, then you probably know a lot about the legendary elephant already. However, there are a few fun facts that you'd probably never guess unless somebody who is a 'Lucy' expert revealed them to you.

In a recent post to social media, the Lucy The Elephant Facebook page actually revealed three interesting facts about her that you may have never heard before. You'd NEVER guess that Lucy is older than some of the most identifiable landmarks of the world!

Wild, right? Yep, it's true! The Brooklyn Bridge was finally finished in 1883. Since Lucy was complete in 1882, that makes her older!

The Statue Of Liberty

She's easily the most well-known landmark of the United States, but did you know that she wasn't reassembled on Liberty Island until 1886? If you recall, the Statue of Liberty was a gift from France that had to be taken apart and then reassembled once it reached the US. Lucy is four years older than Lady Liberty.

The Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is one of France's most legendary landmarks. It receives thousands if not MILLIONS of visitors every year wanting to take in the sight of it. The Eiffel Tower didn't stand in Paris until 1889. Lucy's got seven year's on the epitome of "the city of romance."

People also commented on the fact that Lucy is well-known throughout the world! For example, did you know that Lucy is apparently a landmark on various shipping charts? How cool is that!
