Earlier this year, we lost the young best friend of one of our children to suicide. Months later, it's hard to think of the right words to share with anyone.

I wish I could simply say, "Don't do it, there's too much to live for", and that would be good enough.

No one really knows why someone takes their own life. It happens too often.

The only thoughts I can really share are: it really can get better. Really. No matter how bad things are, they can always get better. Tomorrow really is another day, and none of us know what tomorrow will actually bring.

If you are contemplating suicide, or know someone who is, tell someone. Tell everyone. You will eventually find someone who will listen and reach out with the right words. Also, here's the number for the National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 1-800-273-TALK. Here's their website. If none of this helps, dial 9-1-1. No matter how you feel, or what you hear, there are people that want to help, there are people who care.
