NJ Is One Step Closer To Permanent Daylight Saving Time
I'm ready for daylight saving time to be permanent. I want to see the sun set over the bay later in the winter, and I'm tired of driving home from work down Route 9 in the dark because the sun sets at 4:30. Now that a new bill has passed in the US House, we may be one step closer to just that.
What Is Daylight Saving Time?

Daylight saving time is the time that we are in during the spring and summer season; it's when our clocks move ahead by one hour, and we get extra sunlight throughout the day. It's the best part of the year, in my opinion.
The US House Just Passed The Sunshine Protection Act
The US House voted this week to pass the Sunshine Protection Act, in a 308 - 117 vote, meaning that we are one step closer to being in daylight saving time year-round across the country.
According to CNN, the bill now has to go to the Senate, and from there, it goes to the President's desk for his signature, although there's a chance the bill could stall out in the Senate.

What Does Permanent Daylight Saving Time Mean For NJ?
In New Jersey, permanent daylight saving time would mean we'd see the sun set over the bay an hour later in the winter, so 5:30 PM instead of 4:30 PM. With the sun being up an hour later in the winter, I could see that leading to fewer accidents on local NJ roads in the winter.
What Are The Benefits To Longer Days In The Winter?
There are so many benefits to being in daylight saving time year-round, at least I think so. We don't have to worry about a clock chance, or losing an hour of sleep, and the sun stays up later, which helps combat seasonal depression for those who suffer.
Are There Any Drawbacks To Permanent Daylight Saving Time?
Those who don't agree with the bill say it could have devastating effects on farmers, who rely on an early sunrise in the winter to tend to their fields. Other people say it'd be dangerous in the winter for kids to walk to school or the bus stop in the dark. And maybe I'm crazy, but I vividly remember days walking to my bus stop when I was in school in the winter, when it was still pitch black outside.
So, are you down for permanent daylight saving time? Or are you crazy, and like the time change?
