Hamilton Mall Store on Apparel Chain’s Closing List

The Hamilton Mall location of Express is on the list of stores the company plans to close as part of its bankruptcy plan. The Mays Landing store is incorrectly referred to on the closing list as being in the "Mall at Hamilton Center"

Express Stores Declares Bankruptcy

Express Inc. announced Monday that it was closing 95 Express-branded stores in 29 states and Washington, D.C., and 20 Express factory-outlet stores.

Express has a factory outlet location at Atlantic City Outlets, the Walk that is not on the closing list.

Other New Jersey Express stores in Deptford Mall, Freehold Raceway Mall, Garden State Mall in Paramus, and the Woodbridge Mall store will also be closing.

Express Stores Financial Problems

The fashion retailer, based in Columbus, Ohio, reported nearly $1.2 billion in total debts and $1.3 billion in total assets in its Chapter 11 petition.

According to Express’ website, the company operates about 530 Express retail and Express Factory Outlet stores in the United States and Puerto Rico.

Launched in 1980, Express has been battling soft consumer demand and declining sales recently.

The retailer's bankruptcy comes a month after it was delisted from the New York Stock Exchange

When Will the Hamilton Mall Store Close?

While not giving an exact closing date, Express will hold a closing sale at the Hamilton Mall store beginning immediately.

An investor group led by management firm WHP Global, which owns Toys R Us, is potentially looking to purchase a majority of the remaining Express stores.
