The Union that represents the Atlantic City, New Jersey Police has penned a letter asking for more resources to combat the dangerous environment that currently exists.

There have been four murders in the first 7 days of 2024 … that’s more than Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

By contrast, there was a total of 7 Atlantic City homicides during all of 2023.

The current trend is alarming and deeply disturbing.

Atlantic City is a world class destination resort, where more than 20 million people per-year come to visit.

Atlantic City must be perceived as safe, or, this current atmosphere is going to have a devastating effect on the casino and hospitality industries.

Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small must step-up and become a part of the solution.

Many view Small as an impediment, who is soft on crime and appears to care more about hiring former convicted criminals to city and contractor employment positions versus fighting the rampant violent crime.

During the murder of a 14-year-old boy on Friday, January 5, 2024, the Atlantic City Police could not reach Small’s so-called anti-violence staff members.

The anti-violence team arrived on the homicide scene 1 1/2 hours later, long after a young boy was shot in the head and killed, along with another boy, who was shot and survived.

The Atlantic City PBA Local 24 wrote the following:

In light of these circumstances, I appeal for additional resources to bolster our law enforcement efforts. The need for increased personnel has never been more critical. We have grant funding for 30 additional Officers and have 10 budgeted backfill positions that have not been utilized. The hiring of these positions needs to be expedited.

The city's residents deserve to feel secure in their homes and communities, and a well-equipped and adequately staffed police department is essential to achieving that goal. Everyone deserves a safe City to live, work and visit we are committed to working with all the stakeholders to ensure this

Here is a copy of the entire letter that was written on January 8, 2024.

The various important Atlantic City stakeholders are understandably very concerned about the current lawlessness that exists in Atlantic City.

The time is now for Mayor Marty Small to assign the proper focus and resources to protect the residents and visitors of Atlantic City.
