• An old-school Wawa in Hammonton may soon disappear, replaced by a newer Super Wawa just down the road

It appears that an older gas station near downtown Hammonton will soon be replaced by a new gas station.

Along with coffee, hoagies, snacks, Sizzlis, and more.

Just last month, Al & Rich's Exxon station on Route 54 at Chew Road closed for good (their gas station on the White Horse Pike remains open).

Now, according to social media posts, a Super Wawa store is planned for that busy intersection.

Plans posted online seem to indicate that this proposed convenience store would be on a relatively smaller scale, compared to other Wawas in the area, with only six gas pumps for 12 vehicles. Some locations have double that number.

The property, which is larger than it appears based on where the existing Exxon station sits, would support two entrances and a good amount of parking. Those two entrances would be set back a bit from the Route 54-Chew Road intersection just a bit.

One does have to wonder how traffic will be managed at that intersection, which already has two existing smaller convenience stores and two gas stations. Adding a Super Wawa into the mix could potentially cause some issues.

It's also probably safe to assume that this new Super Wawa would replace the existing old-school Wawa just 1/2-mile further up Route 54 by the water tower (which, by the way, is where we first spotted the Wawa sign challenge).

When we drove by the former Exxon station early Monday morning, all of the pumps had already been removed and the lot was blocked off.
