Missing Lower Township Man Identified After Remains Found in Woods
Cape May Court House, N.J. — Human remains discovered in a wooded area of Middle Township six months ago have been identified as a Lower Township man who was reported missing more than two years ago.
The Cape May County Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the remains belong to 42-year-old Benjamin J. Beason of Lower Township.
Beason had been reported missing to the Lower Township Police Department on May 22, 2024.
Skull Found in the Woods
On March 3rd of this year, a Cape May County resident walking in a wooded area in the Whitesboro section of Middle Township came across what appeared to be a human skull and immediately contacted police.
A coordinated search by law enforcement and search and rescue personnel recovered additional skeletal remains from the area.
The New Jersey State Police Forensic Anthropology Unit examined the remains, and the findings were forwarded to the Southern Regional Medical Examiner's Office. Those examinations led to the positive identification of Beason.
The findings were subsequently forwarded to the Southern Regional Medical Examiner's Office, where the remains were positively identified as Beason.
Cause of Death Remains Under Investigation
The cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
