Promote Atlantic City Police Sgt. Who Was Shot & Nearly Died: Here’s Why
I have written a number of articles about Atlantic City, New Jersey Police Sergeant Christian Ivanov. He is the police officer who was shot last Tuesday — where he nearly lost his life — he was closer to dying than anyone has reported.
It Got Me Thinking
Yesterday, I inadvertently wrote that he is Captain Christian Ivanov. It must have been a freudian slip.
My mistake made me think … Why not promote Sergeant Christian Ivanov to Captain Christian Ivanov?
Promote Sergeant Ivanov — Not Because He Was Shot
Rather, because Ivanov displayed actions, leadership, character, and service before and during the shooting incident that demonstrate captain-level qualities.
Leadership That Was Proven Under Fire — Literally
A police captain's role is to lead people through a crisis.
The shooting incident provides a real-world test of leadership under the most extreme conditions imaginable.
Ivanov has demonstrated courage in the face of life-threatening injuries. This reality shows leadership that cannot be replicated in a classroom or some police assessment center, or, a civil service list.
The measure Of A Police Superior Officer
The measure of a police department leader is not how they perform on routine days — rather, how they handle a situation where everything is on the line.
During the incident that nearly claimed his life, Ivanov displayed:
- courage.
- judgment.
- commitment.
What more can you ask?
PS: Ivanov’s brother is presently high on the list for Sergeant of Police in Atlantic City.
