Police say a narcotics investigation in Atlantic City led to the recovery of a large amount of heroin, marijuana, and a stolen gun.

An investigation conducted by detectives with the Atlantic City Police Department's Special Investigations Section on Monday resulted in the arrest of 35-year-old Ameer Stephens of Atlantic City after cops searched his vehicle. Inside, they found one kilogram of raw, uncut heroin with a street value of $80,000. Officers say the street value becomes greater when the heroin is cut and packaged for sale; that amount could make 35,000 individual bags of heroin. Detectives also recovered one pound of marijuana and a loaded handgun that was reported stolen from Georgia.

Stephens is facing a long list of charges, including leader of a narcotics trafficking network, two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of a weapon, receiving stolen property, and more. He was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
