Lately, all of these articles have been popping up toying with the idea of having to pump our own gas here in New Jersey. Oregon was our only friend that didn't pump gas, now they've abandoned us.

This has brought into question whether or not people from New Jersey should pump their own gas.

Short answer NO!

Was that clear enough for you?

It amazes me that people are even entertaining this idea. How can any self respecting New Jerseyan even think about pumping their own gas?

Honestly I would rather be the laughing stock of the U.S. than pump my own gas.

I've seen the concern of having to wait for the attendant as a reason to pump our own gas. If you are in that much of a rush, maybe you should've left earlier and planned accordingly. What if you got caught behind an accident?

We have already cut down a lot of jobs by making self checkout a thing at food stores, Target, Walmart, etc. Are we willing to take away more jobs by getting rid of gas attendants?

I don't know how it would be cheaper. Up until recently, New Jersey has had the cheapest gas and we didn't have to pump ourselves. I have a hard time believing gas prices would go down if we had to pump it ourselves, our prices aren't astronomically higher than states that pump their own gas.

I have pumped gas before. When we went out of state with Girl Scouts I was the designated gas attendant. I got my little butt out of the car to pump everyone's gas. Is it hard? No. Do I want to do it all of the time? Absolutely not!

Someone in our office made a great point that has made me believe that gas prices would actually go up rather than down. Now this is just a theory, but it makes sense so hear me out.

Until the gas tax hike, our gas prices were much lower than most states. Why is that? In the state of New Jersey it is illegal to pump your own gas. The gas station does not have the insurance or permits to allow people to do so. If we pump our own gas wouldn't these insurances go up? Where do you think that money is going to come from? Your next fill-up that's where.

What do you think?
