We live in a world of unlimited colors and unlimited customization on practically everything under the sun, yet the most popular car colors could be considered the most boring.

DuPont has released its annual report on the most popular car colors in North America and white and silver are at the top of the list, overtaking black and gray. Why white and silver? Consumers seem to be going with car colors that will make resale as easy as possible (imagine trying to sell a purple or orange car).

The top 2011 global vehicle colors from DuPont are:

1. White, Pearl, or Silver – tied at 22%
3. Black - 20%
4. Gray – 13%
5. Red – 7%
6. Blue – 6%
7. Brown/Beige – 5%
8. Green – 2%
9. Yellow or Gold – 1%
