Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small says one of his main goals for 2020 is to knock-down the former Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino.

During a speech Thursday, Mayor Small called the shuttered, dilapidated highrise, "...an embarrassment, it’s blight on our skyline, and that’s the biggest eyesore in town.”

The casino, which closed in 2014, is currently owned by billionaire Carl Icahn, who assumed ownership of it from bankruptcy in 2016.

The building, located right in the middle of town, has not held-up well to Mother Nature. During a nor'easter in March, 2018, two large sections of the building's exterior blew-off. Those holes have never been repaired.

The property opened as Harrah's at Trump Plaza in May, 1984, with over 600 rooms, seven restaurants, and a 60,000 sq. ft. casino. Five months after opening, the name was changed to Trump Plaza. When it closed in 2014, it was the fourth casino to close that year. The building was set to be demolished in 2018 but those plans never materialized.
