In this time of almost daily active shooter incidents in America, college campuses have become especially vulnerable to acts of violence.

Faced with that sad reality, the Board of Trustees at Atlantic Cape Community College have decided to heighten security at the school's three South Jersey locations.

According to Shore News Today, Atlantic Cape officials will sign a three-month, $100,000 contract with U.S. Security Associates, Inc. in Atlantic City to provide armed officers at the college's locations in Mays Landing, Atlantic City and Cape May Court House.

Michael Bruckler, a college spokesman, confirmed the agreement. “Within the past several months, a heightened concern has emerged on college campuses throughout the country in reference to what the campus safety community calls an ‘active shooter’ incident.

Following review of possible strategies, Atlantic Cape is making provisions to add armed security on our campuses to enhance the college's active shooter response,” Bruckler said.
