As of this past weekend, salt water taffy has officially been in existence for 137 years. Ever wonder where salt water taffy came from? You should. As it turns out, the South Jersey staple taffy is no different from any other taffy. The only difference, according to the Wildwood Video Archive, is in the name.

Salt Water Taffy started at the shore and is now known by that name to people all over the country. How crazy is it that the first batch was "made" right here in Atlantic City?! Accident or not, it's now a permanent boardwalk staple.
