There are so many great towns with a long history here in New Jersey, but we are talking about the oldest town in the whole state, and it's really amazing when you think of it.

This Garden State town was first settled in 1666, according to Insider, making it the oldest in our state. It was actually incorporated in 1693, which of course, is a full 83 years before the United States was even a country.

This historic town that we are talking about is Newark, and it is a place that is so rich in history. And it's way more than just a place where an airport is.

Over the centuries, Newark has been known for many things, including in the 1800s when the area was known for its breweries and leather factories.

Here's a stat that is really amazing to try to wrap your head around. According to Pov.org, Newark's population is well over a quarter million residents, but in 1666, when it was first settled, 200 people called Newark home.

Newark is among the oldest towns in American history, but it is not the oldest. That title belongs to St. Augustine, Florida, which was first settled in 1565. That's really amazing.
