Two Months Later, Deadly Shooting Suspect Is Behind Bars

A suspect in a fatal shooting in June was arrested on Sunday night, according to Bridgeton Police.

Man Wanted in Deadly Shooting 2 Months Ago Arrested

On Wednesday, June 24, a little after 8 pm, Bridgeton Police were called to the Burlington Manor apartment complex to investigate the report of a gunshot victim.

Police found Quanshawn T. White, 33, of Newark, shot several times. White later died from his injuries.

An investigation led to charges being filed against Rynell Lawrence, 32, of Burlington Road in Bridgeton, as the suspect. Lawrence was charged with first-degree murder and various weapons charges.

Lawrence had fled after the Whites' shooting, and police began a search, saying that Lawrence should be considered armed and dangerous and that the public should not approach him.

At 8:08 pm Sunday, after more than two months on the run, Bridgeton police arrested Lawrence at the Burlington Manor Apartments where White's killing had occurred.

He was placed in Cumberland County Jail pending court hearings.

Lawrence Has a Criminal Record

According to a 2017 media report, Rynell Lawrence was arrested and jailed in connection with a 2017 shooting, when another man stole a victim's drugs and money and shot him in the back of the head. The victim survived.

Rymeer L. Scurry later pled guilty to second-degree aggravated assault and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Lawrence pleaded guilty to a second-degree robbery charge stemming from the 2017 case in Cumberland County and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
