Squares and Fare: Unveiling a Secret Pizza Spot’s Transition to a Public Restaurant
A secret Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey pizza ring is a secret no more now that its chef is opening a real restaurant in Somers Point. Take a look at how the space is coming along.
It was about two years ago that I first became aware of this 'underground' pizza while accompanying a friend to pick up a pie and some cookies she had ordered.
I Could Tell Ya, But I'd Have to Kill Ya
The way she described it to me sounded like she bought something from a school fundraiser, the kind where students sell candy, candles, wrapping paper, etc. That's what Squares & Fare sounded like to me.
She ordered weeks in advance and had to text someone just ahead of her appointment time to get the pickup location.
My friend received the intel and off we went to a residential home in a populated EHT neighborhood. Squares & Fare was located inside someone's HOUSE.
The pizza man came out to the car, apron and all, to hand over the goods. Pizza owner Dom makes from ingredients that come straight from Italy and his own garden (think Calabrian chilis). I was hooked at first bite.
That Was Then, This is Now
Once upon a time, you had to know someone who knew someone who knew Squares & Fare, or you had to watch its socials for a chance to order a pizza. But that's all about to change.
Finally, after years of planning, Squares & Fare is coming into the light to be underground no more. The exciting news came last October.
S&F has begun renovating the old Somers Point Beach Laundromat off E. New Jersey Avenue in Somers Point (right across from Charlie's) that will become its official pizzeria. One you can actually walk INTO and order in PERSON!
I took a ride by the forthcoming Squares & Fare restaurant this week to check on its progress. It's looking GOOD, y'all!
Opening Soon
A banner on one of the building's windows indicates the pizzeria plans to open to the public this summer. Once it does, there will be a LINE out the front door. Mark my words. But you'll have to get behind ME, lol. You've seen the 'Soup Nazi' episode of Seinfeld, right? Lol.
