The checks are in the mail! New Jersey officials from the state department of treasury have mailed out over 600,000 New Jersey rebate checks worth $500 so far this summer. That's a nice way to wrap up the Dog Days of August.

The checks, totaling over  $267 million were sent out to 630,760 New Jersey residents who filled their taxes by early July according to NJ.com. The average check came out to $423.40. More checks will be going out. The checks will be sent to the address on your NJ 1040 income tax return.

Married parents filing a joint tax return or who identify as head of the household or a surviving spouse would be eligible for the $500 summer rebate. In order to be eligible parents must have at least one dependent child and earn a maximum of $150,000. Individuals with income below $75,000 and have at least one dependent child will also be eligible for the rebate check.

You must be a full-time resident of the Graden State for part of or all of 2020 and you must have submitted a 2020 NJ 1040. The $500 rebate checks for residents of New Jersey will be based on your 2020 gross.

The rebate checks are part of the $319 million packages approved by state officials last fall. Governor Murphy and state officials reached an agreement on property tax measures and middle-class tax relief. It's all part of the finalized and signed 2022 Budget.
