Rutgers Suspends Two Players Including Former Cedar Creek Star
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have gotten off to a 3-0 start entering this week's big matchup with Michigan.
However, they will have to try and win the game without one of their key defenders, Cedar Creek alum, Malachi "Max" Melton.
Per NJ Advance Media, Melton, a redshirt freshman, was taken into police custody and suspended from the team indefinitely following a paintball gun incident. Melton along with freshman Chris Long have each has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose.
“I was informed that Chris Long and Malachi Melton were taken into police custody early this morning as a result of an incident involving a paintball gun. Both players have been suspended immediately,” Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano said in a statement Tuesday morning.
The former Cedar Creek star is the younger brother of Rutgers wide receiver Bo Melton and has had a solid start to the season for the Scarlet Knight defense. The younger Melton has a blocked punt, a fumble recovery, and two interceptions this season, including an interception return for a touchdown in the opening week win against Temple.
