AC Casino Workers Will Protest At The End Of the Month

The Atlantic City Casinos closed their doors on March 16th after Governor Murphy ordered them to shut down to help curve the spread of the coronavirus.

Now, after three months of healthcare coverage provided by a union for casino workers, the employees still out of work are set to lose that benefit. NJ.com reports that the coverage provided by Unite Here, the union that has been covering the healthcare costs of the out-of-work casino employees, comes to an end at the end of June. With no set opening date and no guarantees of full-time employment, employees are worried that they'll be out of luck by the 4th of July.

Unite Here Local 54, the local branch of the union, has organized a protest by car on Friday in an effort to make the casino parent companies see the necessity for them to extend healthcare coverage to their workers. Even if the casinos are free to open in time for July 4th, there's no assurance that all employees will have their full-time shifts back, which will result in a lack of coverage.

Casino heads and union representatives are currently attempting to hammer out an agreement. If nothing is signed, casino employees will be uninsured if the casinos themselves don't step up to insure their workers.
