Atlantic City Casino Workers Continue Call for Smoke Free Casinos
They've had enough, and they want to see a change finally being made.
A group of Atlantic City Casino workers, under the name Casino Employees Against Smoking Effects (CEASE) are once again calling on lawmakers to step in and do something about smoking in the cities casinos.
Lamont White, co-leader of CEASE says this:
“For 45 years, casino workers like us have worked tirelessly to make Atlantic City one of the top destinations in the country for people to gamble and enjoy themselves. We’re proud of the fact that we are the backbone of this industry and know that none of this would be possible without the labor of table game dealers, slot attendants, bartenders, waitstaff and many more."
White says the group enjoys what they do and they want to see Atlantic City continue to grow and flourish - but, they say indoor smoking needs to be stopped.
“Although we didn’t understand the serious dangers of secondhand smoke in 1977, every expert on health and clean air will now say that indoor smoking is a major public health concern and that keeping smoking in casinos only forces workers to choose between their health and their paycheck."
Will CEASE's hopes come to fruition? Only time will tell.
