This is so sad.

Atlantic City has found away to charge people for parking on city streets - and lose money.

Ugh.

Will we follow casino closings with parking meter closings?

According to figures in the Press of Atlantic City, the city took in about $550,000 in revenue from it's parking meters in 2013. The city paid 10 parking-enforcement employees a total of $605,000 in salaries and benefits. It also spent some $20,000 in parking-related expenses.

Now, I'm no accountant, and I don't play one on the radio, and I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn, but it seems to me the city's paid out more for parking meters "stuff" than it took in from the actual meters itself.

There is a plus though: the department did bring in just over $1,000,000 in parking ticket revenue.

Thankfully, there are discussions taking place in city hall to boost the revenue.

By the way.... an average of $60,000 in salary and benefits for parking meter enforcers. Not a bad gig if you can get it....
