Cyclist Killed in Vineland Crash Thursday Night
Cops in Vineland say a cyclist was struck by a car and killed in the city Thursday night.
According to the Vineland Police Department, their officers responded to the area of West Park Avenue and North 3rd Street at about 8:45 Thursday night for the report of a crash involving a cyclist with life-threatening injuries.
A preliminary investigation by police says 54-year-old Phillip J. Cox of Vineland was driving westbound on West Park Avenue in the inside lane. A pedalcyclist, later identified as Daniel A. Diaz of the Vineland, was also traveling westbound in the same lane when he was struck. As a result of the collision, Diaz sustained life threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Due to the severity of the crash, the Vineland Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit was activated to investigate the incident.
Police say charges are pending against Cox.
