2 men allegedly driving stolen car stopped in their tracks by NJ state troopers

Two men allegedly driving around in a stolen vehicle were stopped in their tracks by New Jersey state troopers.

Omar Deas and Rahmir Singletary of Newark, NJ, Arrested

Authorities say at around 4:30 this past Wednesday afternoon, May 29th, members of the NJSP Motor Vehicle Crimes North Unit, as part of the Auto Theft Task Force, were alerted to a black stolen 2012 Audi A5 that was reported stolen earlier that day from Chatham, Morris County.

MVCNU observed the vehicle traveling through the City of Newark when it became disabled after officers deployed a tire deflation device.

The two occupants, 25-year-old Omar Deas and 21-year-old Rahmir Singletary, both of Newark, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

After a brief chase, the pair was apprehended and placed under arrest.

Both men were arrested and charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, conspiracy to receive a stolen motor vehicle, and resisting by flight.

Deas and Singletary were lodged in the Essex County Jail pending a detention hearing.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
