Oregon Man Sentenced to 40 Years After Child Abuse Material Found at Newark Airport

Newark, N.J. — An Oregon man who was found with child sexual abuse material on his phone after arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport has been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison.
51-year-old Jayson Setera of Newberg, OR, was convicted by a federal jury on April 15th on one count of possession of prepubescent child pornography and one count of transportation of child pornography.
On September 16th, he was sentenced to 480 months behind bars, followed by ten years of supervised release. The 20-year sentences for each count will run consecutively.

Caught at Newark Airport
According to federal authorities, on January 22nd, 2024, Setera returned from an international trip on a flight that landed at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Law enforcement searched his cell phone and found approximately 170 photographs and eight videos depicting child sexual abuse material, including content involving prepubescent minors.
Investigators also found messages in which Setera solicited child porn and made references to the sexual abuse of young children, along with evidence that he had made payments to individuals sending him the material.
Homeland Security Investigations and Customs and Border Protection investigated the case, which was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood.
