• Seth Carr sentenced after strangling victim, assaulting her twice, and stealing money via ApplePay

A Pleasantville man is headed to prison for several years in a brutal domestic violence case.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says on Thursday, 25-year-old Seth Carr was sentenced to five years in state prison after he pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree aggravated assault back in October. He also recently pleaded guilty to a charge of third-degree theft.

On April 17th of last year, officers with the Pleasantville Police Department were called to a home on Ridgewood Avenue in reference to a domestic assault.

Police spoke with the victim, who told them Carr had strangled her until she began to lose consciousness. Carr also punched her repeatedly, causing him to break his own hand during the assault.

While the victim was recovering in a local hospital, Carr had her cell phone and he used it to send himself $600 from her bank account via ApplePay. When the victim was released, she noticed the unauthorized money transfer and it was reported to police.

Then, on May 16th, Pleasantville police returned to the same home for another domestic assault call.

There, they observed bruises on the victim's head and face. She also said Carr threw her down and repeatedly slammed her head into the floor. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where medical personnel discovered she was suffering from bleeding in her brain and a sternal fracture.

Assistant Prosecutor Brooke Melissa Hoffner represented the State in this matter.
