The future of Manahawkin's Kmart Plaza on Route 72 has been evolving for more than three years now, ever since the longtime department store closed in 2017.

Plans for the plaza, officially Manahawkin Commons (you can't really call it Kmart Plaza without a Kmart, can you?), have changed a number of times in the years since Kmart closed, but this week officials are offering updates on what is and isn't coming to the Route 72 shopping center.

According to reporting from The Sandpaper, there have been a number of notable changed to the plans for the plaza since the last official update.

The report notes that in earlier plans, the Michaels store was pegged to move into part of the former Kmart space. A move that developers say will now not happen, with Michaels now staying put.

One new move that will be happening is the addition of an Ulta Beauty store. But not necessarily a new Ulta Beauty location, exactly.

To be specific, the new plans call for the Ulta Beauty that's currently right on the other side of the Garden State Parkway, next to Target and Costco, to move a couple hundred yards to the south to join the Manahawkin Commons family.

There were also updates on T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods, Old Navy, Ross, and Burlington, which are all expected to either expand, move, or move in.

The presentation also included specifics on plans to update roads and signage to make getting around the area easier.
