A portion of Old New York Road in Port Republic has been shut down due to a deteriorating bridge.

Officials with Atlantic County closed the Nacote Creek Bridge on Old New York Road in Port Republic Wednesday afternoon following an inspection that found additional deterioration of the bridge.

The bridge is scheduled for full replacement by the county later this year.

Authorities say the state has been inspecting the bridge every three months to ensure its safety.

A detour will be posted and motorists are advised to plan travel time accordingly.
