The countdown to Memorial Day and the unofficial start to the summer season in South Jersey has begun. Get ready for summer traffic jams, as people from all over the tri-state area will once again head down to the shore to visit our beautiful beaches.

Looks like locals will now have to wait even longer before getting a bit of a break in the commute department this summer. According to the Press of Atlantic City, the schedule to re-open the bridge has been pushed back even further.

Now, it looks like the bridge will not reopen until late summer 2019 according to Cape May County officials and the Press of Atlantic City. The next tentative bridge re-opening date is scheduled to be released by officials in the next 30 days.

The Townsends Inlet Bridge was scheduled to be up and running by Memorial Day weekend, according to Sea Isle City officials and as reported by  NJ.com.

The bridge, which connects Sea Isle City and Avalon in Cape May County, has been closed since September 2018. The bridge will once again be delayed in opening due to a geotechnical problem according to the Cape May County Engineer's Office and as reported by NJ.com.

Motorists, bicyclists, runners and pedestrians will now have to wait even longer to once again use this busy bridge in Cape May county.
