Veteran Reporter, Meteorologist at 6ABC in Philly Calls it Quits

A very familiar face to viewers of Channel 6 will no longer be waking up people across South Jersey and Philadelphia -- veteran reporter and meteorologist David Murphy has retired.

Tuesday morning was the final broadcast for Murphy, who has been at 6ABC for the past 31 years.

At 6abc.com, Murphy said,

I have been overwhelmed by the response. I knew there was going to be a response when word got out about this a couple of weeks ago, but it has been more than I thought. A lot of you had really heartfelt, from the heart statements to make and things that you've told me about how not only me - but us - have made a difference in your lives. You've done everything for me and made this career possible by just continuing to tune in and being so loyal. So all my love and thanks to all of you.

David Murphy's career, which also included an appearance or two in a few movies, took him to TV stations in Baltimore, Scranton, and Allentown before he arrived at WPVI in 1990 as a general assignment reporter. In 2004, he became a meteorologist and has been a part of both the morning and noon newscasts on Channel 6 for the past 17 years.

Looking back at the past three decades, Murphy said, "Channel 6 was the only station I seriously pursued. I knew this was the newscast everybody watched, and I wanted to have a lengthy career at the station."
