An 18-year old Vineland man is facing aggravated manslaughter and weapon offenses in connection with the stabbing death of a neighbor Monday night.

In a criminal complaint, Cumberland County Prosecutor Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said Zachary T. Latham, 18, of Thornhill Road in Vineland was involved in a confrontation with William T. Durham, Sr., 51, also of Thornhill Road.

An argument apparently began in front of the Durham home involving Latham, his wife, and Durham and his wife, according to the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office. Latham then left the scene and drove to his home nearby.

The investigation revealed that Durham Sr. and his two sons, a juvenile, age 17 and William T. Durham Jr., age 21, then responded to the Latham’s residence where Zachary had armed himself with a knife and taser.

A second altercation happened in Latham’s driveway and carried into the garage of the home. Durham Sr. was stabbed several time and was pronounced dead at 9:19 p.m.

Latham was taken to Atlantic City Medical Center for injuries he also sustained and was subsequently released.

Durham worked as a senior correctional police officer at South Woods State Prison, the state Department of Corrections confirmed. He was hired in March 2001.

NJ.com reports that a family friend of the Durhams said trouble began when the victim’s wife, Catherine T. Durham, told Latham to slow down when he allegedly sped down their street several weeks ago. Latham cursed her out, then began harassing the family online.

State PBA Local 105 confirmed the senior correctional officer’s death on its website. PBA Local 105 is providing a $10,000 check to help the family and has launched a GoFundMe drive.
