The Wildwood Fire Department has more than one reason to celebrate this week.

Wildwood's city fire department has received two Assistance to Firefighters grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the total amount of $119,077. The awards are given to various departments to help with the cost of any emergency fire departments may encounter.

FEMA states on their website:

"AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards."

In Wildwood's case, the grants help deflect the cost of some recent projects, both COVID and non-COVID related, from the taxpayer's dollar. According to the Wildwood Video Archive, only 5% of the cost for the essential projects involving reequipping emergency vehicles will be subsidized by local funds.
