2-Year-Old Drowns in Swimming Pool in Stafford Township

Tragedy in the Ocean Acres section of Stafford Township Wednesday - a two-year-old drowned in a backyard swimming pool.

The identity of the child has not been released, but the girl was believed to have been staying with her grandmother when the accident occurred.

According to the Press of Atlantic City, the girl "was staying at a home on Buccaneer Avenue in the Ocean Acres section of the township. Police said they believe the girl was watching television at the rear of the home when her grandmother went to check on her and saw a sliding screen door was open."

"'The grandmother looked outside and saw the child floating at the deep end of the pool,' said Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Al Della Fave."

An uncle was supplying CPR when police arrived. The girl was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center, but was pronounced dead.
