Some positive news for Atlantic City: the former Showboat Casino reopened Friday as a hotel with over 800 rooms.

A press release states this is the first phase of the hotel coming back to life. 852 rooms will be available to guests, including over three dozen 1,100-square-foot balcony suites and two 1,900-square-foot oceanfront "super suites."

Bart Blatstein, the President and CEO of Philadelphia-based Tower Investments, says,

“This is an exciting time for us – Tower Investments embraced this opportunity and hit the ground running to make the opening of this hotel happen in time for the prime summer tourist season. We are extremely proud of this hotel, the fact we are open for guests now and that we are creating hundreds of jobs in Atlantic City, all while delivering an unforgettable experience for our guests at this iconic destination.”

Known for its Mardi Gras theme, it's 24-hour party atmosphere, and it's bowling alley for a time, parent-company Caesars Entertainment closed the successful casino hotel in 2014 -- after 27 years of operation -- to trim the gaming market in Atlantic City. Shortly after Showboat closed, Revel and Trump Plaza followed leaving thousands of people in the region without jobs. In 2015, Stockton University announced plans to turn the facility into a city college campus, but those plans never materialized. In September, 2015, Bart Blatstein acquired the property.
