Middle Township Police are investigating the crash of a banner plane Sunday in a marsh in Green Creek, just west of Rio Grande. Police responded at 1:46 pm Sunday to the report of an aircraft crash.

Their investigation indicated that an aircraft from Paramount Air was circling to land when the aircraft lost power and crashed in the marsh area near Paramount Air field

The 20-year-old pilot was flying a Piper J3C-65 banner tow aircraft, suffered lacerations to his head and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Paramount Air Service refers to itself as "the nation's oldest and largest aerial advertising firm", flying banner planes from Cape May, to as far north as Asbury Park, since 1945.

A quick internet search of Paramount Air shows that several of the company's banner planes have crashed in the last decade, including crashes in 2008, 2010 and 2012.

The FAA and Middle Township Police are still investigating.
